Message from the Founder of Laughter Yoga: Dr. Madan Kataria

Dear Laughter Friends,
Every first Sunday of May we celebrate World Laughter Day. Started in 1995, Laughter Yoga movement has spread across 106 countries with thousands of free social Laughter Clubs. Our mission is Health, Happiness and World Peace through Laughter and the formula to achieve this is very simple. If people are happy and healthy, they will contribute to world peace. On this day, Laughter Club members and their friends and families get together in important squares and public parks to laugh together for world peace. This year we celebrate Laughter on 7 May 2017.

TALKING ABOUT HEALTH
Laughter Yoga is simple, cost effective exercise to reduce stress, strengthen the immune system and oxygenate each and every cell of your body. If you laugh every day, you will not fall sick easily and if you have chronic health issues, you will heal faster.

ABOUT HAPPINESS
Why people are not happy because they look for happiness in the outer world. We cannot change the outside circumstances in a day, but what we can do is to change the way we feel inside. This inner change is the key to see the change in the outer world. Laughter Yoga has taught us that the easiest way to be happy is to find happiness within us by laughing for no reason. Our slogan is: “We don’t laugh because we are happy; we are happy because we laugh.”

WORLD PEACE THROUGH LAUGHTER
Laughter is a universal language we all speak. By setting up free social Laughter Clubs all over the world we are creating a worldwide community of healthy and happy people from different countries and cultures to become like an extended family. In order to bring peace in this world let us all stand for a minute and laugh heartily with our arms pointing skywards and send out positive vibration, love and peace
into this world.

What is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga is a simple, yet very effective body-mind technique that is scientifically proven to counter stress and boost the immune system. It is designed to teach the body to laugh without depending on comedy, jokes or humour.

Laughter Yoga is a combination of easy laughter exercises and simple breathing and relaxation exercises (derived from yoga). There is not other connection to yoga. No yoga experience is necessary. You can practice laughter yoga at any stage of your life! More info on how Laughter Yoga works.

The World-Wide Laughter Movement started in India in 1995 when Dr. Madan Kataria, a Mumbai physician, discovered the physical and psychological benefits enjoyed by his patients who had taken to heart his prescription for regular laughter. They were happier, healthier and more productive. With his wife, Madhuri Kataria, a yoga teacher, Dr. Kataria developed Laughter Yoga - which involves laughing for no reason at all. Dr. Martin Combrinck is the founder of Laughter for Africa and has trained personally with Dr. Kataria, the founder of Laughter Yoga, in South Africa and in India. Dr Kataria is also the Patron of Laughter for Africa. He obtained his PhD in "The Application of Laughter as Therapy" in 2015.

Martin has been conducting Laughter Yoga & Coaching seminars, workshops & training in South Africa since 2007 and his speciality is delivering Laughter to the Corporate World. He conducted the very successful online Laughter Summit in 2014 - bringing Laughter Experts together in an online platform.

Besides being a certified Laughter Yoga Teacher in South Africa, he is also an international registered and qualified Yoga, Relaxation and Meditation Teacher. He holds a degree in Psychology and is a Wellness Coach and Consultant.

Martin and his wife, Anne, started Ananda Sanga Educational Institute in 1996 and they teach yoga and related disciplines to national and international students.
